William Leo Ludovissie—known to friends and family as Bill— left this world on January 22, 2025, in the comforts of his home, surrounded by his wife and three daughters.
Our beloved bohemian warrior was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer in August of 2024. In less than two months’ time, he started chemo and, with the grace of many close family and friends, made a move to Alexandria to continue treatment and live out his final months closer to his daughters, grandchildren, and brothers.
He was born on August 12, 1960, in Wadena, to John and Grace (Kveton) Ludovissie, the fourth of five sons growing up on a farm in Bluegrass. He inherited his mother’s kind heart, love for laughter, and ironclad family bonds. No other group of brothers has ever been closer than that of Tom, Joe, Mike, Bill and Bob.

Bill graduated from Wadena High School in 1978 and attended Wadena Vo-Tech to gain a degree in auto mechanics. This is where he met Judy Peterson, the cutie behind the parts counter who soon became the love of his life.
They married a year later and spent a year in Bemidji, where Bill also gained a degree as an auto machinist. The two were blessed with three daughters: Kristie-Kat ('81), Julie-Bird ('82), and Mindy-Monster ('84). Bill and Judy then moved to Loman, close to Judy’s family, and bought a farm together, where they lived for 40 years.
Their home and land became a testament to Bill's labor of love. He added on and remodeled their home providing a bedroom for each daughter, several sheds, his heated shop and gathering space: “Bill’s Garage” and a "hot tub room" for Judy, ensuring everything he did was for his family. Together, they raised cattle, sassy daughters, the occasional chicken and worked together to make this farm their home.

A machinist by trade, Bill retired from a millwright position at Boise Paper Mill (now PCA) after 29 years. Prior to starting in the mill, Bill worked for nine years in the woods for Peterson Logging. In Koochiching County, he was known for his talents in rebuilding diesel engines and having a non-Scandinavian name.
Each daughter provided at least one of his six grandsons, and Bill proudly taught them gun safety, cheered at hockey games, and struggled to pronounce dinosaur names. He was also known for playing Barbies and “restaurant” with his three dearly beloved granddaughters, his "princesses," who could do no wrong in Grandpa’s eyes.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, John and Grace Ludovissie; brother, Mike Ludovissie; niece, Sara Ludovissie; parents-in-law, Clayton and Bette Peterson; brother-in-law, Jimmy Peterson; and sister-in-law, Kristi Peterson.
Bill is survived by his wife Judy; daughters Kristie (Matt) Haubrich and grandsons Jack, Levi, and Sawyer of Danube; Julie (Cord) Anderson and grandchildren Brody, Hawken, and Wrenna of Farwell, and Mindy (Noah) Anderson and grandchildren Rueben, Eve, and Eloise of Kensington; brothers: Tom (Mary) Ludovissie of Verndale, Joe (Kathy Mueller) Ludovissie of Crystal Lake, Illinois, and Bob (Kim) Ludovissie of Wadena; brother-in-law Jon Peterson of Loman; sisters-in-law, Nancy Peterson of Woodbury, Susi (Dennis) Bannert of International Falls, and Vicki Peterson of Loman; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Bill will forever be remembered for his dedication to family and his ability to bring warmth and a good (or not-so-good) joke to those around him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, strength, and unforgettable failed wrestling memories with his brothers, nephews, and sons-in-law. We can only hope that we are as loved by our families as Bill was.
The pallbearers are Andy Ludovissie, Mark Ludovissie, Robbie Ludovissie, Jacob Ludovissie, Drew Ludovissie, and Jake Bannert. Honorary pallbearers are his grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, February 1, 2025, at Oscar Lake Lutheran Church, Farwell. Interment will take place at the church cemetery. A memorial service will be held in the Loman area at a later date.
The visitation is one hour prior to the service at the church.
