Gloria June Borchardt, 99

A private family viewing for Gloria Borchardt was held at Helgeson Funeral Home in Baudette, MN, on Friday, January 3, 2025, with interment at a later date in the Borchardt private cemetery.  A Celebration of Life is being planned for the summer of 2025 and will be announced at a later date.

Gloria June Borchardt, 99 years, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 27, 2024, at Lakewood Care Center in Baudette, MN.  She was born in Cresco, Iowa, on October 18, 1925, to Fred P. and Beatrice (Mitchell) Stockman.  The family moved to Houston, MN, when she was 5 years old.  She graduated from Melrose High School in 1943.  She attended Minnesota Business School following graduation, where she worked until her marriage to Robert Borchardt in 1946.

While Robert attended the University of Minnesota,  Gloria worked in the office of the Administration Building on the Farm Campus.  Later, she worked at the Sister Kenny Institute during the polio epidemic.  In 1952, they moved to Baudette with their two small boys, Robert J. and Mark.  While living in Baudette, nine more children were born.  When her children were older, she worked at Trinity Hospital as a nurse's aide for a number of years.  Later, she graduated from Northland Community College's cosmetology program and was enrolled in the LPN program when she lost her husband.  She also served as president of the American Cancer Society and helped care for our community as a home health aide. 

Gloria belonged to the Trumpette Bridge Club for 60 years and she enjoyed time spent with her hobby club.  She had a love for babies and was coined by her family as the baby whisperer.  She enjoyed nature, gardening, traveling, reading and artwork. 

Gloria is preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers Jim and infant Jerry, sister Madeline, and son Robert James.

She is survived by ten of her children: Mark (Celeste) of Anchorage, AK; Denise (John) Lindquist of Soudan, MN; Heather (Mike) Peek of Fort Meyers, FL; Catherine (Dean) Wallant of Plymouth, MN, Laurel (Ben) Mostad of Kennewick, WA; Gloria (Ernie) Lund of Clementson, MN; Steven of Baudette; Stephanie (Mike) Jensen of Saginaw, MN; Kevin (Kim) of Louisville, KY and Scott (Anita) of Phoenix, AZ.  Gloria is also survived by 22 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.
