Obituary: Glenn Evenstad, 91

October 19, 2026

Glenn Duane Evenstad, son of Sophie (Swanson) Evenstad and Ole Evenstad, was born May 25, 1935, in Baudette, MN, and passed away on October 8, 2026.  He was a loving son, brother, father, father-in-law, uncle, and grandfather.  He would always say, “Family is what’s most important”.
Glenn grew up in the town of Baudette along with his sister Arlene and brothers Ken and Gerald.  After graduating from Baudette High School, he enlisted in the Army and was a teletype repairman stationed in Nome, Alaska.
After serving for three years, he lived in Denver, CO, to attend trade school for gunsmithing.  Soon after, he was influenced by his Uncle Matt Mickelson to move to Florida.  In Tallahassee, Glenn owned a sporting goods store where he sold gun and hunting supplies as well as made gun repairs.
It was here where his soon-to-be wife’s roommate borrowed a book and was then introduced to Suzie.  Glenn married Suzanne Guthrie, an art major and teacher, on December 27, 1967, in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.
Glenn and Suzie lived in Florida for two and a half years, then moved to Arizona with Suzie’s family.  It was here where he could both work in the HVAC industry to support his family and also dedicate time to his passion of gunsmithing.
During retirement, Glenn and Suzie were able to take frequent road trips out of state to visit their three children: Jennifer, Christopher, and Kurt.  Glenn loved hunting, fishing, carpentry work, home projects, cooking, gardening, and of course, gunsmithing, which he enjoyed doing with his kids and grandkids.
Glenn was a fun-loving and kind person.  He taught his children to have an appreciation of things
as well as go through life with honesty and grit.  Glenn would often retell childhood memories of growing up in Baudette, and was proud of his Lutheran roots and his love for God, the Creator.
Glenn is survived by his wife Suzanne, sister Arlene Hanson, daughter Jennifer (husband: Jim) in Tempe, AZ; son Kurt in Seattle, WA; son Christopher (wife: Renee) and grandchildren Sophie, Beret, and Haakon in Minnetonka, MN, in addition to many nieces and nephews.
Services for Glenn will take place Thursday, October 22, at Helgeson Funeral Chapels for visitation 5-7 pm, in addition to Friday, October 23, at First Lutheran Church of Baudette starting at 11:00 am, followed by lunch, and a veteran ceremonial burial service at Elm Park Cemetery in Baudette, MN.
